Babies & Toddlers (Ages 0-3)

srp2018 reading takes you everywhere purple 300wHow it works:

  1. Have fun completing early literacy activities with your baby or toddler in the five principle areas of Every Child Ready to Read:  Reading, Writing, Singing, Talking, and Playing**. (The activities are listed on the Summer Reading Log.)
  2. Mark off a square on your Summer Reading Log for every early literacy activity you complete with your child.
  3. Once you've finished twelve activities, bring in your completed log and collect your prize packet, which includes a book of your choice as well as coupons and prizes from many local businesses.

Summer Reading Log:  Need a copy of the reading log? You can pick one up at the Kids & Teens desk or click here

**The Public Library Association (PLA) and Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) concluded that public libraries could have an even greater impact on early literacy through an approach that focused on educating parents and caregivers. If the primary adults in a child’s life can learn more about the importance of early literacy and how to nurture pre-reading skills at home, the effect of library efforts can be multiplied many times.

Teaching parents and other caregivers how to support the early literacy development of their children is the basis of Every Child Ready to Read. There are five principles of Every Child Ready to Read. They are: Talk, Sing, Read, Write and Play. These five principles are met through the activities listed on the other side of these page, but these are only a small sampling of what you can do with your child.
