Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Patrons with library cards that are in good standing may request interlibrary loans for materials that the Elmwood Park Public Library does not own. An interlibrary loan item may come from another library within our system (Metropolitan Library System), or from other libraries outside the MLS system or state.

Requests may be made in person, over the phone (708-453-7645), or by e-mail (eps@elmwoodparklibrary.org). We will need your name, library card number and phone number. Elmwood Park residents may request materials within the MLS system at a SWAN on-line catalog in the Library or from home using the SWAN web catalog (http://swan.mls.lib.il.us). You will need a pin number to make the requests on-line. For help in creating a pin, please refer to the “My Account” link on the SWAN web page or see a librarian.

There is no fee to use ILL service. However, any charges from the lending library will be passed on to the patron. We will inform you of any charges before we request the material.

Patrons who lose or damage materials will be charged a replacement fee, processing fee, and any applicable overdue fines as determined by the lending library.

You will be notified when your item comes in. We will hold the item for 7 days. Any restrictions imposed by the lending library will be noted (short loan periods, no renewals, in library use only, etc.). You may pick up your material at the Front Desk.

Loan periods and renewals are determined by the lending library. If you wish to renew an item, please contact us before the due date. Renewal is not guaranteed.

The Elmwood Park Public Library will loan materials to other libraries, generally for no charge. Please contact an Adult Reference Librarian for information.
